Overview
ConvertAtlas ("we", "us") operates convertatlas.org, a collection of free developer tools, guides and reference material. This policy explains, in plain language, what data is and is not collected when you use the site, and the choices you have.
The short version: our tools are built to run entirely in your browser, so the data you put into them is not sent to us. We use a small amount of analytics and, where permitted, advertising — both of which you control through the cookie settings.
Our tools run in your browser
This is the most important point. Every tool on ConvertAtlas — formatters, encoders, hash and token generators, converters and the rest — runs as client-side code inside your own browser. The text, files, payloads, tokens or passwords you enter into a tool are processed on your device and are never transmitted to, stored on, or seen by our servers.
There is no server-side tool processing to send your input to. When you close or reload the page, that data is gone unless you saved it yourself.
Data we collect
We aim to collect as little as possible. Specifically:
- Tool input — not collected. As above, it never leaves your browser.
- Analytics data — aggregated, privacy-respecting usage statistics (such as which pages are visited) collected only if you allow analytics cookies. This helps us understand what is useful and improve the site.
- Contact form — if you email us through the contact form, we receive the name, email address and message you choose to provide, solely to reply to you.
- Local preferences — your theme choice, cookie consent and saved favourites are stored locally in your browser (localStorage), not on our servers.
Cookies and local storage
We use cookies and browser storage in three categories, which you control:
- Necessary — required for the site to function, such as remembering your cookie choice and theme. Always on; they store no personal data.
- Analytics — set only with your consent, to measure site usage anonymously.
- Advertising — set only with your consent, used by our advertising partner to measure and personalise ads.
- You can change these choices at any time using the cookie button in the bottom-left corner of any page.
Analytics
With your consent, we use Google Analytics 4 to collect aggregated, anonymised usage data. Analytics cookies are loaded only after you accept the analytics category; if you decline, no analytics scripts are loaded.
This data tells us things like which tools are popular and how visitors navigate the site. It is not used to identify you personally.
Advertising
To keep the site free, we display ads through Google AdSense, but only if you accept the advertising cookie category. If you decline, advertising scripts are not loaded.
Where ads are shown, our advertising partner may use cookies to measure performance and show more relevant ads. Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads based on prior visits to this and other websites. You can learn more and opt out of personalised advertising in your Google Ads settings.
Third-party services
The site loads a small number of third-party resources, each with its own privacy practices:
- Web fonts and icon libraries, served from a content delivery network, to render the interface.
- Google Analytics (analytics), loaded only with consent.
- Google AdSense (advertising), loaded only with consent.
- We do not sell your personal data to anyone.
Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU/EEA or similar laws elsewhere), you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal data we hold about you, and to object to or restrict certain processing.
In practice, because we hold almost no personal data, the main controls are immediate and in your hands: adjust cookie consent at any time via the cookie button, clear your browser’s local storage to remove saved preferences, and contact us about any message you have sent us.
Children's privacy
The site is intended for a general, developer audience and is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site evolves or as legal requirements change. When we do, we will revise the "last updated" date below. Significant changes will be reflected clearly on this page.
